Is my bike 26 inch or 28 inch

To tell whether your bike is 26 inch or 28 inch, read the size molded into the tire sidewall first. If it is missing, measure the wheel across its center, but use that only as a rough check.

Check the tire marking before measuring

Turn the wheel slowly and inspect both sides of the tire. Look for a size beginning with 26 or 28. The marking may appear beside other numbers describing tire width or rim compatibility. A clear 26-inch label identifies a 26-inch tire; a clear 28-inch label identifies a 28-inch tire.

Do not decide from the bicycle frame’s apparent size. Wheel size refers to the wheel-and-tire system, while frame size and rider fit are separate questions. Also check the bicycle manual or a legible rim label if the tire marking is worn away.

How to make a rough wheel measurement

  1. Stand the bicycle upright on level ground.
  2. Place the end of a tape measure at the floor directly below the wheel axle.
  3. Measure upward through the center of the axle to the outer edge of the inflated tire.
  4. Double that radius to estimate the wheel’s outside diameter.

A result near 26 inches suggests a nominal 26-inch wheel, while a result near 28 inches suggests a nominal 28-inch wheel. This is only a screening method: tire depth, tread and inflation can change the outside measurement, and nominal bicycle sizes do not always equal an exact tape-measured diameter.

If the result falls between the two, do not round it to whichever size seems more convenient. Take the tire, rim and bicycle markings to a qualified bicycle mechanic. This is especially important before ordering a replacement tire, tube or wheel, because nominal labels alone do not establish compatibility.

Measure the rider separately

Knowing that a bicycle has 26-inch wheels does not prove that it fits a particular child. Measure the rider’s standing height and inseam, then have the rider try the bicycle. XBikes uses 26 inches as a starting point for youth and adults over 60 inches, or 153 cm, tall. The supplied XBikes fit standard does not list a 28-inch kids-bike starting point.

During the individual fit check, confirm comfortable stand-over clearance, an easy reach to the handlebar, reliable access to the brake controls and confident starting, steering and stopping. Prioritize those observations over age alone. Do not choose an oversized bicycle merely to leave room for growth.

How the catalog options help with comparison

The supplied products include verified 26-inch and 24-inch catalog choices, so they can help confirm what a labeled 26-inch option looks like and prevent confusion with a smaller 24-inch choice. None has a supplied 28-inch SKU label, so these products are comparison points, not 28-inch substitutes.

The 26-Inch XJD Beach Cruiser Bike for Girls – Purple, V-Brake has a Purple / 26 Inch SKU label. Its catalog also lists Mint Green and Pink options in 20, 24 and 26 inches, making it useful for comparing clearly labeled sizes within one product listing.

The XJD 24-Inch Green Beach Cruiser Bike with U-Brake is titled as a 24-inch green model. Its supplied SKU labels are Green / 24 Inch, Pink / 24 Inch and Pink / 26 Inch. Select by the complete color-and-size label rather than assuming every variation matches the 24-inch wording in the title.

The Pink XJD Beach Cruiser Bike, 24"/26", U-Brake has separate 24 Inch and 26 Inch SKU labels. It is relevant when distinguishing those two sizes, but neither variation is identified as 28 inch.

What to do next

  • If the sidewall says 26: treat the bicycle as 26 inch, then verify rider fit before use or purchase.
  • If the sidewall says 28: treat it as 28 inch; do not replace it with one of the listed 26-inch products on the assumption that the sizes are equivalent.
  • If no marking is readable: use the outside-diameter measurement only to narrow the possibilities, then ask a qualified bicycle mechanic to confirm the exact size and compatibility.

Before riding, have the child try the bicycle and confirm control, stand-over and brake reach. A bicycle helmet should fit properly, sit level and have its straps adjusted according to the helmet manufacturer’s instructions. Follow the exact bicycle manual or consult a qualified mechanic for assembly, maintenance, torque, load limits and component compatibility.

Your decision is simple: trust a clear tire or rim marking, use measurement only as a cross-check, and choose 26 or 28 only after both the wheel size and the rider’s individual fit have been confirmed.
