How to choose a toddler bike helmet

Choose a toddler bike helmet by measuring head circumference, matching that measurement to the helmet’s stated range, and checking a level, stable fit.

Measure before comparing helmets

Use a flexible tape around the widest part of your child’s head: just above the eyebrows, above the ears and around the fullest point at the back. Keep the tape level and comfortably snug. Record the result in centimeters, then repeat the measurement to catch a slipped or angled tape.

Shop from the measurement, not from the word toddler, a clothing size or age alone. Head sizes vary, and age wording in a product name is a catalog label rather than proof of fit. If the measurement falls outside a listed range, that size is not appropriate.

If the measurement lands where two listed ranges overlap, try both sizes when possible. Compare how securely each shell sits after adjustment; do not automatically choose the larger one for growth.

Compare the available size ranges

The supplied XBikes options cover three stated ranges: S at 18.11–20.08 inches / 46–51 cm, M at 20.47–22.05 inches / 52–56 cm, and L at 21.65–22.83 inches / 55–58 cm. Notice the gap between 51 and 52 cm: a measurement in that gap does not match either stated range and should not be rounded to force a choice.

Check the helmet on your child

A matching number only identifies a candidate. Place the helmet level on the head rather than tipped back or pushed low. Adjust its fitting system and straps exactly as the manufacturer instructs. The helmet should remain stable during normal head movement and should not obstruct vision.

Check the fit again from the front and sides. Confirm that the straps lie correctly, the closure is secure, and the child is comfortable enough to keep the helmet on. If you cannot obtain a level, stable fit within the manufacturer’s adjustment instructions, reject that size or model even when the circumference appears to match.

Do not add unapproved padding, alter the shell or improvise a strap arrangement. For adjustment details, replacement guidance or any feature not stated in the catalog, follow the exact product manual or consult a qualified bicycle mechanic.

How the three XBikes options compare

These particular catalog options help because they provide explicit circumference ranges to compare with your measurement. Their usefulness depends on that match and the on-head check; their names, colors and category do not establish fit.

Kids Multi-Sport Bike Helmet by XJD – Black offers S at 46–51 cm and M at 52–56 cm. Its available SKU labels also list blue, green, pink and purple in those same two sizes. Among the supplied choices, its S range is a relevant starting point for a toddler whose measured head falls within 46–51 cm.

Girls Bike Helmet by XJD, Pink Flower Print also lists S at 46–51 cm and M at 52–56 cm. Compare it with the same measurement-led process; the word Girls and the print are catalog presentation, not fit evidence.

XJD Kids Bike Helmet for Boys & Girls, B White / Pink White starts at M, 52–56 cm, and also offers L, 55–58 cm, in B White and Pink White. It is relevant only if the measured head falls within one of those ranges, so it may not suit a smaller toddler who needs the supplied S range.

Keep helmet fit separate from bike size

Helmet circumference does not determine bicycle wheel size. If you are also checking the bicycle, XBikes lists 12-inch bikes as a starting point for ages 3–4 and rider heights of 34–40 inches / 86–102 cm, but that is not a substitute for trying the bike. Prioritize measured height, inseam, reach, brake control and current confidence, and never buy an oversized bicycle merely for growth.

Measure the head now, shortlist only ranges that contain the exact result, and have your child try the helmet. Buy only when it sits level, adjusts according to its manual and remains stable; otherwise choose another size or model.
